Our different ICUs

Guy’s Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital have ICU wards to provide patients and their families with the highest level of care and support in an atmosphere of kindness, dignity, and respect. Patients treated at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital come from:

  • Southwark and Lambeth London boroughs
  • Kent, Surrey and Sussex counties
  • Wales, Northern Ireland, British Isles and Europe for specialist severe respiratory failure services.

Each ICU has a mix of side rooms and open bays with 13-15 patients in each ICU.

  • Side rooms are rooms that accommodate one person only. These may be used for several reasons, for example to prevent infections spreading.
  • Open bay, this is the large common area of the ICU where patients are cared for. Each bed area is separated by curtain for privacy.
